Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Women is the patron of numerous initiatives that contributed to the flourishment of Bahrain on many levels during the past two decades.
Throughout the years, Her Royal Highness’s endeavors to enhance the quality of life of the people of Bahrain have been visible and received worldwide recognition.
By contributing to the development of many fields, such as, women and youth empowerment, culture, arts and heritage, environment and agriculture, various achievements were accomplished thanks to the support of Her Royal Highness.
One of the remarkable initiatives that were launched by Her Royal Highness the Princess is the National Initiative of for Agricultural Development, NIAD.
This is the Palm Tree Festival, a two-day cultural event that aims at encouraging and supporting the local production of all palm tree products, including the various types of dates known for their quality and taste in Bahrain and the region.
The event was the result of the fruitful cooperation between NIAD, Bahrain Development Bank and the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning.
Held at the Farmer’s Market in Hoorat Aali, the festival featured a number of entertaining and cultural activities with the participation of a group of Bahraini farmers, companies, productive families and handicraftsmen, exhibiting and selling products extracted from the palm trees.
Several cultural and heritage events were held on the sidelines of the event including a small handicrafts exhibition highlighting the Bahraini traditional crafts and documenting the lifestyle of the ancestors.
Being a family-fun day, a children’s corner focusing on educational and cultural workshops was also organized, in addition to agricultural activities, computer games, face painting and other activities.
The organizers told Bahrain Now that the Palm Tree Festival is an opportunity to local farmers to promote their products to the public and increase their selling margins and investments.
